The ...</title><content type='html'>&lt;strong&gt;Whites Now Minority in 1 in 10 U.S. Counties&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The U.S. Census Bureau reported on Thursday, August 9, 2007 that Whites are now a minority in nearly 1 in 10 of the 3,141 counties in the U.S. Therefore, now more than 303 counties in the U.S. have majority-minority populations. Louis Kincannon the Director of the Census Bureau stated in the news release that "one in three U.S. residents is a minority." The news release reported that:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Hispanics were the largest minority group that accounted for 44.3 million people&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Blacks were the second-largest minority group that accounted for 40.2 million people&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Asians accounted for 14.9 million people&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;American Indians and Alaska Natives accounted for 4.5 million people&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Native Hawaiians and Other Pacific Isladers accounted for 1 million people&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Hispanics continue to be the fastest growing minority group followed by Asians.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Non-Hispanic whites grew only by 0.3 percent from July 1, 2005 - July 1, 2006&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The minority population in the U.S. is now larger than the total population of all but 11 countries&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Approximately four states and the District of Columbia are "majority-minority. CNN commissioned a po...</title><content type='html'>&lt;span style="font-size:85%;"&gt;CNN Releases Poll on Racism&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:78%;"&gt;CNN commissioned a poll that was conducted by the Opinion Research Corp. on the subject of racism which was released on December 13, 2006. About 1-in-ev...</title><content type='html'>&lt;span style="font-size:78%;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;strong&gt;U.S. Population One-Third Minority&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;About 1-in-every-3 U.S. residents was part of a group other than single-race non-Hispanic white according to national estimates by race, Hispanic origin and age released by the U.S. Census Bureau. In 2005, the minority population totaled 98 million, or 33 percent, of the U.S. total of 296.4 million.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;“These mid-decade numbers provide further evidence of the increasing diversity. . . population," said Census Bureau Director Louis Kincannon.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Hispanics continue to be the largest minority group at 42.7 million. With a 3.3 percent increase in population from July 1, 2004, to July 1, 2005, they are the fastest-growing group.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Unless otherwise specified, the data refer to the population who reported a race alone or in combination with one or more other races. The tables show data for both this group and those who reported a single race only.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The second largest minority group was blacks (39.7 million), followed by Asians (14.4 million), American Indians and Alaska natives (4.5 million) and native Hawaiians and other Pacific islanders (990,000). This comes almost 39 years after the 200 million mark was reached on Nov. 20, 1967.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:78%;"&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:78%;"&gt;The estimate is based on the expectation that the United States will register one birth every seven seconds and one death every 13 seconds between now and Oct. 17, while net international migration is expected to add one person every 31 seconds.
